Preamble

As members of the CYGMA (CYPRUS GAME MAKERS ASSOCIATION) LIMITED, we are united by a shared commitment to fostering a sustainable, innovative, and internationally competitive game development ecosystem in Cyprus. Our mission, as outlined in the Association’s Memorandum of Association, is not only to advance the commercial and professional interests of our members but also to elevate the cultural significance and reputation of the games industry as a whole.

This Code of Conduct serves as a foundational guide for our professional and ethical obligations. It reflects our dedication to upholding the highest standards of integrity, respect, and responsibility in all our endeavors. Adherence to these rules is essential for maintaining the trust of our peers, partners, players, and the public, and for ensuring the continued growth and positive impact of the Cypriot games industry. By joining CYGMA, each member affirms their commitment to these principles and to the collective well-being of our community.

  1. Core Principles

All members of CYGMA shall be guided by the following core principles, which are the cornerstones of our association:

We recognize the impact of our work on society and our players. We are committed to responsible game design, ethical business practices, and promoting a safe and positive gameplay environment.

Advocacy

We actively represent and promote the interests of the Cyprus games industry, engaging constructively with public authorities, educational institutions, and international partners to create a favorable framework for growth and innovation.

  1. Professional Conduct and Responsibilities

Members are expected to maintain the highest standards of professionalism in their interactions and operations.

2.1. Compliance with Laws and Sanctions Members must conduct their business in full compliance with the laws and regulations of the Republic of Cyprus and any other applicable jurisdictions. Furthermore, members must strictly adhere to all sanctions and restrictive measures imposed by the European Union, the Republic of Cyprus, or any other relevant Sanctioning Authority. Any member subject to such sanctions will have their membership and rights automatically withdrawn for the duration of the sanctions, as stipulated in the Articles of Association.

2.2. Integrity and Fair Dealing Members shall compete fairly and ethically. They must not engage in deceptive, misleading, or fraudulent practices. All business transactions, especially those involving the Association, must be conducted on arm’s length terms, with full prior disclosure of any potential conflict of interest.

2.3. Confidentiality Members are obligated to treat all confidential information concerning the Association, its activities, and its fellow members with the utmost discretion. Such information, particularly that which is explicitly marked as confidential by the Board of Directors, shall not be disclosed to third parties without proper authorization.

2.4. Intellectual Property Members shall respect the intellectual property rights of others, including copyrights, trademarks, and patents. We commit to combating copyright infringement and support measures to protect the creative work of our members and the industry at large.

  1. Workplace and Community Standards

We believe that a healthy and supportive environment is crucial for creativity and professional success.

3.1. Anti-Harassment and Non-Discrimination A safe and respectful environment is a basic right for every developer. Harassment or discrimination in any form is strictly prohibited within the Association and its member companies. We are committed to fostering workplaces free from discrimination based on race, gender, creed, age, sexuality, family status, disability, or national origin.

3.2. Workplace Quality of Life Member companies are encouraged to promote a healthy work-life balance. Leadership should adhere to fair schedules and contracts, ensuring that employment agreements are fair and legal. We support providing for the physical and mental well-being of employees to the best of our abilities, recognizing that an informed and healthy workforce benefits the industry on every level.

  1. Ethical Development and Business Practices

Our responsibility extends to the players who engage with our games and the broader community.

4.1. Responsible Gaming and Player Protection Members are committed to the protection of players, particularly children and young people. We support clear and transparent age rating systems, such as PEGI, and will not intentionally misrepresent content to rating authorities. The Association does not accept members whose enterprises are related to or promote games of chance or adult-themed games.

4.2. Transparency with Consumers All in-game purchases, including virtual currencies and loot boxes, must be presented to players in a clear, transparent, and unambiguous manner. The real-world cost of items should be evident at the point of purchase.

4.3. Community Management Members are encouraged to establish and enforce clear codes of conduct for their online communities to foster a positive, respectful, and safe environment for all players.

  1. Enforcement

Adherence to this Code of Conduct is a condition of membership in CYGMA. The Board of Directors may investigate reported violations. Breaches of this Code may lead to disciplinary action, up to and including the termination of membership, as decided by the members in a general meeting in accordance with the procedures outlined in the Articles of Association.
