Games from Cyprus Comes Home at Cyprus Comic Con 2026

Cyprus is home to more than 400 game companies. Their games reach hundreds of millions of players worldwide, yet most people on the island have never heard of the studios behind them. At Cyprus Comic Con on 3 and 4 October, the Cyprus Game Makers Association (CYGMA) sets out to change that, bringing the Games from Cyprus booth to a home audience for the first time.

One industry, one identity

Games from Cyprus is CYGMA’s initiative to present the island’s game companies under a single identity. It made its international debut at gamescom in Cologne in August, with ten Cyprus companies sharing one stand.

The same visibility gap exists at home. Pixel Gun from Cubic Games has passed 300 million players. Ducky’s Melon Sandbox has passed 150 million installs. On PC, Owlcat Games in Paphos made Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, which has sold more than a million copies, and Unfrozen in Limassol is behind Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, in early access since April. Many visitors will know these games. Few will know they were made in Cyprus.

At the booth, visitors can put that to the test with a quiz: which of the games you know were made on the island? For the full picture, see Section 3, Companies and Employment Figures, in the CYGMA industry report.

A clearer path into game development

Young people need to see a way in. This spring, CYGMA signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Cyprus University of Technology covering research, teaching and student placements. It addresses a gap in the talent pool: Cyprus universities produce roughly 290 to 385 graduates in game-relevant fields in 2026, and only around 10 to 40 of them are realistically hireable by game studios (Section 6, Talent Pipeline and Education, of the industry report). As part of the cooperation, open lectures on game development led by industry experts begin this autumn, with dates to be announced.

The demand is already there. CYGMA research in September 2026 counted more than 350 open positions across Cyprus game companies, including junior and intern roles. The real figure is likely higher, as some companies do not advertise vacancies publicly and instead invite candidates to send a CV directly.

To make these opportunities easier to find, CYGMA has launched a careers section on its website that brings open positions from Cyprus game companies together in one place. Each listing links to the company’s own site, where the vacancy appears exactly as the company published it. CYGMA only collects the listings.

Support for Cyprus indie developers

Comic Con is also a chance for CYGMA to meet the island’s indie developers in person and talk about how the association can support them. Two opportunities are on the table.

First, the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) has proposed G3 – Games Go Global, a program for game studios based and operating in Cyprus. The program has not yet been approved or launched. RIF gathered industry input through a market-sounding questionnaire, which closed on 30 September. The next step here is the real application, which opens next year.

Second, applications for the Cyprus delegation at gamescom 2027, taking place 23 to 29 August in Cologne, will open soon, alongside other trade mission opportunities. CYGMA will share full details in a separate announcement.

With thanks to our partner, Xsolla

CYGMA’s presence at Cyprus Comic Con is made possible by Xsolla, a global commerce company and our official exclusive video game commerce partner, and the general partner of Games from Cyprus at Cyprus Comic Con 2026. With an established presence in Cyprus, Xsolla works with the local game development community and helps connect studios on the island to the global games industry.

Xsolla also sponsored the GamesBeat report State of the Game Industry 2026: Cyprus and Israel, which highlights Cyprus as an emerging hub for international game businesses and the opportunities the island offers studios worldwide.

We are grateful to Xsolla for supporting the association’s work and the growth of the Cyprus game industry.
